I see that there are the tack head gourd banjo and the tension systems that allow you to tighten the head. Which one is best? Which one has the best sound? I am going to make one of each but I would like to know what other people think.

	Strumelia says: 12/9/2011 4:43:25 PM I have a tackhead gourd. I've never played a suspension gourd, but I can't say that I love their 'look' so I can't envision myself ever buying one. Just my own personal preference!
	C Nyal de Kaye says: 12/10/2011 4:21:32 PM Welcome to the group decorah. I made a gourd banjo several years ago and the head is attached by drawing pins. It has been no trouble at all, except for the usual problems associated with varying humidity. I am 90% of the way building a string tensioned head so can't really comment on that system yet. However the head is on the gourd and tightened and it seems OK so far. It looks like I fitted the cords a bit too loosely but we'll wait and see. I'll let you know the result. One thing I did learn was that attaching the cords was a bit more complicated than it seemed in advance of doing it. Finally I drew it all up on a full sized accurate diagram just to make sure that every cord had a matching one. Anyway I'll stick up some pics and info later and good luck with your efforts.
