My 10 year old Gus is doing an extensive school project on Senegal, which will include constructing an Akonting, learning to play it, and then perform it. The Akonting is now complete. Photos have been posted.

	jimrichter says: 3/30/2011 5:23:34 AM It's a 3 string instrument (one high string and two low). He'll be learning to play it, as he'll perform a traditional West African tune. It's played in stroke/clawhammer style, which is where American clawhammer style orginated. You can see many videos of traditional players performing on the Akonting on YouTube or in Bela Fleck's movie Throw Down Your Heart
