I love my gourd Banjo. It was built by Noel Booth of Balsam NC near Waynesville. I bought it I believe in 2003 at Acoustic Corner in Black Mountain NC and have been playing it ever since! I believe Noel Booth had just started making gourd banjos at the time because his instruments varied quite a bit I don't think he had decided on one particular design. Mine has a fairly short scale mahogany neck with a rosewood fingerboard and peghead overlay. the dowel stick comes out about 2 inches at the bottom of the gourd and the tailpiece is a single piece of rosewood with a square hole which the dowel stick passes through the pressure of the strings on the tailpiece keeps the fit of the neck and body secure. I wish I could upload some good pictures of it on here but I don't own a digital camera but hopefully I can get some better pictures on here in the near future. I would highly recommend one of Noel Booths banjos his business name is now Old Fiddle Road Banjos. He makes some great openbacks also!
