Scruggs Tuners

From RUSTYSTILL on 6/22/2012 9:35:47 AM

I've never had the urge to have Scruggs tuners on my Calico until recently having become intrigued with a John Hartford piece called Foggy Mountain Landscape.  Has anyone here put them on their Deering?  I checked the Deering site but could find none available there.  Which brand do folks consider the best?  Thanks for any info.  Jim

The "Cheat-A-Keys" work if you want to go cheaper. The banjo will look better with D-tuners though. I noticed that instrumentalley. com has Schuller D-tuners for $109.00 which the cheapest I've seen, the Keith D-tuners can run close to $300.00.
I have a freind who has the "cheat a keys on his Eagle II. works fine, I just prefer the D-tuners myself. Murphy has a DVD on her site (murpymethod.com) that teaches many of the tuner songs.
Good luck,
Keith.

I have stainless steel Keith D-Tuners on my Maple Blossom. It was a bit of an expensive fad as I seldom use them, but once they are set up properly they are great fun, and you can always put the original tuners back with no ill-effects what so ever, The Schaller versions are less expensive but many players are satisfied with them. The Keith tuners are very well made indeed and I understand that Bill's after sales service is second to none. All the best. Peter V.

Thanks for the comments. One additional question if I may, is the standard to just get two for the 2 and 4th string?

Kieth tuners are the way to go, but are they really $300? I got mine for $59 a while back.

Sorry for the repetition, was trying to edit and must've been a software glitch.
$59? Where?

I have had Keith tunners on my GDL for 30 years, You have a good banjo that will last forever if you take care of it, If you are going to do anything to it Don't concern yourself with cost.
There is a reason Keith tuners are more expensive than other tuners and it is not because of the name.
