I have been learning to play the banjo for about one year now. Getting good at some tunes using clawhammer bum-ditty rhythm. I have been playing and singing many more song using a strumming rhythm with just my thumb. Is that exceptable I seem to enjoy that way much more and can play many more songs. I do not worry about any melody note just a good beat and even get the drone string working kind of nice.

	Tatersoup says: 10/26/2013 7:59:29 AM Anything you want to do is acceptable!!! My recommendations are to continue to practice the frailing strum and more importantly, keep working on learning melody.
	Uncle Brad says: 10/26/2013 8:40:34 AM During non-vocal parts I play the technical clawhammer tabs, but during the vocal parts I maintain the bum-ditty rhythm just using the cords. I believe maintaining the bum-ditty rhythm over of the strum is no more complicated, yet maintains the clawhammer feel of the song. But certainly as Tatersoup say, whatever works for you is great and always welcome.

I also do a lot of just bump ditty to chords and now doing drop thumbing and double thumbing and starting to learn chords . I'm scottbarnbilly on youtube if you want to see these easy ways things . I usally use short chords also for speed and ease .
