Interest has been expressed regarding the possibility of a Banjo Workshop near Harrison, Arkansas. The workshop would be a 1 or 2 day event depending on how many people are interested. The format of the event would be aimed at working with beginners during the first half of the day with the last half of the day being geared toward advanced beginners. The instructor focuses on getting students to a level that will allow them to get out and start playing backup as soon as possible. The quicker the student is able to participate in playing with other people, the greater the chance of continuing to play the instrument. There would be a charge for the workshop to cover expenses. The price will be dependent on how many people participate in the class. I would like to hear from all who might be interested in participating. A rough idea of the number of students is needed to determine if there is enough interest for this to be feasible. Northern Arkansas and Southern Missouri students should be within easy driving distance.

Three primary styles of 3-finger playing- Scruggs, Melodic and Single-String. We will spend a fair amount of time on ‘back-up’ technique, so you can begin playing with others by the time you leave. Basic instrument set-up—Chris is a master at banjo set-up and will help you get the most from your instrument. Tunes, Tunes, Tunes! Be thinking of music you want to learn. Each participant will receive handouts of tablature and relevant work materials, as well as audio files with tunes we work on, both slow and medium tempo. It’s like 2-3 months of lessons in one day!
