i really like this banjo a lot. just traded into a Collings Varnish mandolin and need to raise $2250.

picked up a Reiter A flat scale about 2 months ago and i prefer that scale length, but i think i like the whyte laydie tone ring in the Galax better for tone-both are very nice, i just like what the Galax does soundwise better. thought about swapping necks with both, but both play and sound so nice i don't want to mess with anything.

this Galax is in great shape and plays very fine. serial # 2601.  real nice wood, and the Reiter build quality has surgical precision. these are probably some of the best built banjos out there imo.

so, buy my Galax and enjoy a real nice piece of working art.

Elderly is selling new ones for $1,495 without a case.  I rate this one an excellent buy.  A very solid banjo that will hold its value well.

Agreed... AND with a case, no less.  I don't think this one is going to be hanging around for long.

there are hardly any Reiter banjos to be found for sale. most all dealers that carry the line are in wait for delivery and have been for months. i don't think there is a Galax or A flat for sale anywhere. took me nearly 6 months to get the A flat thru elderlys(put a deposit on the next arrival). during that wait, i found this by chance and had always wanted a whyte laydie to try out. i was very impressed from the moment i laid hands on the banjo-not only the tone, but the build quality Bart Reiter has with these instruments. my A flat is no different-huge bang for the buck.

after a few months of owning this Galax(and the A flat), i emailed Bart to see if he would be up for building me the shorter scale neck to go on the Galax. He was nice in his response but said he could not help as he did not have enough time left to fill orders before he was retiring.

i've also thought to put a deposit on the next A flat Elderlys might get(i think they would get delivery before anyone else, Bart worked there before he started building and they were the first shop to carry and continue to carry his stock-just common sense). Take that next A flat and just change out the necks, i would then have me an A flat Galax, attach the standard neck to the new pot/head assembly and there would be a "standard" to sell. really thinking about doing that.........................

the big scare is, once this one is gone, i doubt i will have opportunity to get another, especially one that i like this well. i also think when he retires, the price on his instruments will nearly double due to supply and demand.

if i keep this up i think i can talk my self into removing the ad listing(lol, but really)

Bart Reiter RETIRING???  Well, I guess that means MY Reiter A-flat Standard is going to up in value.  I'm glad I got mine when I did!

BTW, good luck on your sale.  After this revelation about Bart, your banjo is sure to fly off the shelf... and if it doesn't, these folks don't know what they're missing!
