Original Score from Joseph M. Daly, 1910 This week's tune was original composed in 1910 by Joseph M. Daly, with lyrics added in 1911. It's typically played as an instrumental though.
This was featured as the clawhammer TOTW with an excellent writeup from Don Borchelt back in May of 2013. Don included this: "You can keep your fancy jazz licks, your record setting banjo duels, your oddly crooked tunes in mixo-frumpian mode, what really sets the men apart from the boys (so to speak), is the ability to make your banjo sound like a chicken."

In all seriousness, I agree with Don. It's been 45 years since I first heard John Cohen's Folkways record "Mountain Music of Kentucky," and while every selection is memorable, the piece that continues to amaze me above all the others is Banjo Bill Cornett's version of "Cluck Old Hen."
