I'm in my 3rd year as a general music teacher in Prescott Valley, Arizona, grades K-5th; before that I taught 6 years in Utica, NY. I try to teach the elements of music and the state and national standards for music, by having my students produce music in several world music ensembles: African drumming, Afro-Caribbean marimba band, Balinesse gamelan, American Indian flutes rattles and drums, fife and drum corps, Appalachian dulcimers, and baritone ukuleles (the strings= the first four on a guitar). I make most of the instruments we use in the classroom. I love all kinds of banjo picking, but only play two finger thumb lead really well; also a little clawhammer.
