Thanks for the links! In the spirit of make it yourself I already attempted to weld it. I cut the old bolt in half, then welded it to a section of threaded rod cut from a bolt. My weld was bad. So I think I may give it another shot.
It is apparently virtually the same as a 6mm thread. I may try that, but the best I could find was $6.75 per bolt: mcmaster.com/#hanger-bolts/=nzupb1
