Robby, it was his copy of Skillethead. It sounded great. Ron and I did talk banjos all evening. I took my old 75 with me for him to check out. He is really a great guy and an outstanding musician! No man.....I have a show to play next weekend and I can't make it.......BUT, The Boxcars are playing about a hundred miles from me the next weekend (March 10th)  and I WILL be there to see Ronnie and the boys and to pick up MY Skillethead!!!!!   Can't wait!!!!!!

It's ironic that you mentioned using that for a project name.......I have been approached recently about doing a solo project and have been giving it some consideration. If it should come to fruition I might have to consider using your title!  I've always loved that movie "The Forbidden Planet" that your poster is based on and that fact that Robby the Robot was in it is just too funny!

Thanks Bribak........you've made kind comments in the past and I really appreciate it. This project will more than likely never materialize. It's a fun, exciting thought to consider but when all the realities come to light such as expense and logistics and believe it or not just simply deciding who to do the project with you, it all becomes overwhelming. And the real bottom line, the real truth of the matter and what will ultimately be the demise of this is that I am terrified to take on such a project and the simple fact that I, me, Robby Boone is not worthy of a solo project......it would sell literally 10's of copies.......wait a minute, I would have to GIVE them to my friends and family!

Ok.....I've diverted from the topic long enough........back to Skillethead and Son Of Skillethead........one week from today, if all goes well, I will see the infamous Mr. Stewart and pick up my banjo! Can't wait to see Ronnie and can't wait to play the first notes on this new monster!

Thank you all for your continued interest and excitement about these incredible new banjos.......they are truly new treasures and instant collectibles!

I would like to order one of your solo CDs and will pay in advance for when it is ready. This can make it simple, play mostly instrumentals, as we like to hear banjos, and play a bunch of oldies. Perfection is not everything. When I listen to Earl in those old recordings, my favorite parts were the mistakes. It reminds me that he is real.
I don't think anyone wants you to have that banjo more than me. I wish I could be there when you rake your fingers across it for the first time. Also, send me the pictures and sound files and I will post them for you if you want.

Warren,  I couldn't agree more.  As I've said before numerous times, I have enjoyed Ron's sound clips of the Yates banjos probably as much as any full blown studio banjo recordings.  

The TONE really comes shining through on those simple solo recordings.  Here's a thought - have Ron and Robby just sit down together and take turns bouncing tunes, licks,

and backup stuff with each other using the same simple recording technique that Ron records all those fabulous clips with.  Just two good friends sharing buckets of wonderful TONE

with the rest of us.  Offer them for sale as downloadable MP3s.  Man, I could eat that up.

Let me address you first. You have no idea what it means to me to have you say and do nice things for a hack like me. There aren't many things that I know anything about in this world, but I DO know banjo playing when I hear it........and I heard it yesterday up close and personal. Handing S.O.S back and forth took me to school on what a banjo should sound and be played like in the Scruggs vain that many, maybe most enjoy and aspire to do. At this point in time and not to discredit anyone else or their ability as there are several that I really respect and enjoy hearing play and deserve all the recognition and respect they get, but....YOU, in my opinion are the very finest there is.....period.

So with that said, Thank You again for all you are and all you do and most of all...... Thank You for being my friend,

Thank you for being encouraging and thanks to all that have encouraged me to "do" something, but the "schooling" I got yesterday confirmed what I already knew and was struggling with about recording a solo project. Yesterday I made the decision that there will be no solo CD for me, I will play this banjo (along with a couple others) on the band's projects in the future and on stage and I will do it proudly but that's gonna be it.

Ok.......let's get to the banjo, that's the reason for this thread in the first place right?

First I have to say that the banjo is just incredible, all the expectations were met and exceeded. The "presentation" was memorable with a mix of old and new friends in attendance. Ron Stewart, Kerry (my wife), Bob Rodgers, Bill Anderson, Drew Pierce, Larry Smith, Jerry Hale, John Meyer and maybe some that I missed were there, and if you were there and I missed you or mentioning your name please forgive me as I was in pretty much a fog by the time "the deal went down"! The one major player in the equation that was not there was Warren and I sure wish that he could have been.......Warren you should be so proud of your product! I am just blown away with this thing and the sound........simply outstanding.

It was a long day of driving, waiting and anticipation but was totally worth it and I would do it again today if I needed to. My wife and I got home last night after 2 AM old time and 3 AM new time, but that didn't keep me from getting the banjo out and taking it to my pickin' room and playing it for 20-25 minutes before going to bed.......I just had to hear it in "my" environment and play it when I was less nervous........it's amazing.

Hell,  I was there,, saw it all. Sickening to Hear as I call Ron and Robby,, Alphonse,, and Gaston,, bickering over each others pickin,  take turns pickin that banjo.  My first inclination was to get a saw and cut the neck off at the heel and beat the crap out of those 2 fellows.  Robby had to suffer thru the Boxcars show,  Wait a half- hour before ever laying a hand on his banjo. I told him,,, go back there,, and snatch the doors off the hinges and get your banjo. Paid no attn to my advise,,I,m up in years and have little patience for waiting. After the Ride up with Professor Anderson,,I realized I didn,t take enough nerve medicine with me to last thru the presentation,,I could have threaded a sewing machine running at idle speed.  I,m happy for you Robby, I,VE SINCE DONATED MY JUNK TO THE SALVATION ARMY,,I don,t know which Branch and could care less,,,For those interested look on facebook for Jerry Hale,,A video is on there for over 3 minutes,,Kinda hard to hear over Andersons description of those old Picks that made a banjo go a octave lower,,I lost interest in everything but a nervous pill,,,,,
