Here in Clermont Florida it's Jack's Barbecue. Jack's motto is, "If the chimney ain't smokin' we ain't open." There is Florida Gators memorabilia on the walls and caps on the ceiling. Hundreds of caps. People used to come in from distant places and they would leave their cap. The baseball type caps are stapled to the ceiling.

Jack's is a favorite stopping place for Florida Gators fans heading north to Gainesville on game day.

Jack's is a fun place to go have some good barbecue and a relaxed casual environment.

Smoked meat and sweet tea are the trademarks of Jack's. Their coleslaw is a vinegar based slaw instead of creamy. It's really good and the baked beans are great.

I joined a friend for a year long quest to find the best BBQ Ribs in Texas about 5 yrs ago.
We ate BBQ Ribs all over the state and our pick for #1, hands down, no contest, was
Stubbs BBQ at Red River & 6th Street in Austin Texas. It's 3 1/2 hours from me and
worth the drive.

To find the best BBQ in Texas would be quite an undertaking. I've used Stubb's bottled sauce from the store. It's good stuff.

Best Bar-B-Q I ever ate was in Memphis called Central Bar-B-Q - it was awsome!

I was born and raised in Southeast Missouri, equidistant between Saint Louis and Memphis. Our barbecue was derfinately influenced by Memphis style barbecue but more so by St. Louis style. St. Louis barbecue has it's own characteristics and then there's Kansas City, known for barbecue. I grew up in the barbecue belt. I guess that's why my belt has to be so long.

Here in the little (700) village, the best BBQ house is mine.

I'm guessing Bubbalou's Bodacious B-B-Q, but I wouldn't swear to it.

Big Bob Gibson's is only about an hour's drive west of us in Decatur, AL. They've won the Nat BBQ thing so many times it's silly. Unfortunately, I just don't care for their Q.

Best I ever had was literally a hole-in-the-wall joint down in Tuscaloosa. Was in an old cinder-block gas-station that had been abandoned. You walked up to a hole knocked in the wall and handed over $5. You got a paper sack with two slices of white bread and a half-rack of ribs...to die for.

We now go to a place called "Moe's" moesoriginalbbq.com/ It's a franchise and has its ups and downs but the Q is good and it is convienient. Too bad it is a "sports bar" environment. Too noisy...so we usually get our food "to go".

Otherwise, I'm happy to make my own. If we're making sammitches, I do go over to a BBQ joint called "Lawlers" and buy a pint of "squeeky slaw" (vinegar based).

There used to be a Famous Dave's here in Braintree, but it closed and has become just another Italian chain restaurant.

There's a Tennessee BBQ right around the corner, though

We used to go to Mac's in Seattle. It was pretty good. Hard to find good BBQ in the Pacific Northwest, so now we just do it ourselves. I'm constantly told to open a BBQ joint, but none of the folks telling me to do that are shelling out any coin for the venture.

If I didn't want to do it myself, or drive 4 hours to Kansas City, I'd go here:

and get hooked up with Richard Hollins:

Bobby and Judy Thompson introduced me to Herbert's BBQ in Franklin TN. . Some of the best I have ever eaten. Sadly they are no longer in business AFAIK.

Al & Irene's in Cedar Rapids. It was owned and operated for years by an African-American family. They recently retired and sold it to an Asian guy. Hopefully he can keep the quality of the food to the same standard. It was (and hopefully still is...haven't been there for a while) really good Alabama style wet BBQ.

When I lived in "the city" it was Big Nates of Nate Chamberland of the San Francisco Warriors Basketball team...for dinner almost every night.

Man-O-Live, those ovens...all brick and runnin' round the clock.

I do admit my first rib sandwich was in Mississippi, but I learned bout BBQ and was a true believer ever since...

Ya smoke it, not grill it

If you want to start an argument, ask which barbecue joint is the best. No shortage of opinions on that one. But for me, Wallace BBQ in Austell,Ga. ranks at the top of my list. Their pork is consistant year in and year out and the vinegar based sauce is the perfect compliment. I have also come across some excellent BBQ in those 'hole-in-the-wall' places that may not be much to look at, but they sure know how cook up the Q.

Here in Maine, we call it " my house" since it is at my house...there really isn't any good BBQ up here... So sad...

That reminds me, again, of the difference bewteen between dedication and commitment. It's like bacon and eggs. The chicken was dedicated, but the pig was definitely committed!

They do a fantastic job and make it look really good when they hand it to you. The Miller Lite carton has 6 different kinds of sauce in it. Everything from Hot Hot to mild with a sweet taste.

I like the hot. I can only eat the half rib rack....actually its just 4 bones

They also won world champion for Whole Hog at the "Memphis in May" contest in 2008

I should mention Bozo's in Mason, TN. It is on old Hwy 70 between here and Memphis. Off the beaten path since they built I-40. They have been serving good BBQ since 1925. Bozo the clown tried to sue them years ago, but lost his case. According to rumor,my former neighbor Isaac Tigrett, founder of Hard Rock Cafe, is planning to purchase (or already has?) Bozo's and make a national or international chain of it.

Not local to me (nothing IS) but the absolute best BBQ I've had is from the Hard 8 in Stephenville, TX.

I've not tasted anything that compares, ANYWHERE. It's awesome!

My mom lives outside of Little Rock in a little town called Mabelvale. I'm for sure going to check out the Whole Hog Cafe next time I'm in Arkansas.

Hi Randy,

I think you will like it. And you might also like a bbq place called Three Sam's (no relation) in Mabelvale at the old train station. Probably not far from your mom's cause Mabelvale ain't that big.

Here is the website and menu for Whole Hog....wholehogcafe.com/

In our area (St Clair Shores, MI) "Lazybones Smokehouse" probably is the best and their barbecue is excellent. Next to that would be "Red, Hot and Blue". But, my all time favorite is "Allman's" in Fredericksburg, VA.

So that's right there where you turn on to Main street? Mom lives outside of Mabelvale on Sardis road. You go through Shannon Hills and keep going a few more miles.
