Silvio mentioned the Osbourne Brothers. I love "Old Time Grocery." I'm sorry to say I have a burnt copy of that and I've looked ALL over for an original.

I'll avoid mentioning the "regulars" and throw out somebody I don't hear mentioned nearly enough------
The Very Best of The McCormick Brothers.

Not necessarily in order:
1. Nill Monroe - Live Off the Record
2 The Bluegrass Band (Burch Robins, etc.) - Once Again from the Top
3. Jimmy Martin - The King of Bluegrass
4. Flatt & Scruggs at Carnegie Hall
5. David Grisman - Home is Where the Heart Is
6. Butch Robins - 40 Years Late
7. Mountain Music Bluegrass Style (Folkways)
8. Don Stover - Things in Life
9. Kentucky Colonels - Live (Rounder)
10. Bill Keith - Something Auld, etc.
I guess ten isn't enough...

I AGREE WITH MOST OF ALL THAT HAS BEEN MENTIONED.
GOOD CALL NIRVANO ON BANJOLAND, ONE OF MY FAVORITES TOO.
I GUESS 044 AND LIVE AT CARNEGIE HALL WOULD BE AT THE TOP.
BUT I REALLY GOT ALOT OF LISTENING AND LEARNING PLEASURE
OUT OF "LEADING ROLL" BY SLAMMIN SAMMY TOO.
BEST LIVE FUN TO LISTEN TO ALBUM HAS TO BE "LIVE AT THE CELLAR DOOR".

A must have for every collection and one of my favorites
A 3 CD set. Newport Folk Festival Best of bluegrass 1959 - 1966. These are live performances from Hylo Brown and the Timberliners with Earl Scruggs. The Stanley Brothers, The Foggy Mtn Boys, Jim & Jesse, Don Stover, The Lilly Brothers with Don Stover and Tex Logan, Bill Monroe, and last but not least Hazel Dickens & Alice Gerrard. Each band does about 7 - 9 tunes and it's all recorded live so you feel like you were right there in a front row seat.
One of my other all time favorite CD's is The Hillmens. With Chris Hillman. It's a great CD.
Raynae Redman.
A banjo can get you through times with no money, but money can''t get you through times with no banjo. John Hartford

If this ever becomes an official list I just have to put in my vote on a couple:
1. Foggy Mountain Banjo
2. 0044
3. This mix tape from my uncle that I wore out when I was a kid, which included Red Allen singing "I'd beg you back".

Possibly the song of Red's you're thinking of is "I Beg To You," written by Jake Landers with an idea from Red. It's quite a special set of lyrics in bluegrass, as the speaker takes contrite responsibility without self-pity for a relationship problem: "...And it's nobody's fault but my own...".

I must add my very favorite band right now to the wonderful list of albums mentioned so far........ The Gibson Brothers ....... They use all the traditional bluegrass instruments in a traditional fassion with one big exception. When the banjo comes in it absolutely belongs to the song, meaning very few wild Jazz like runs, the same is true of all the other instruments along with the vocals, a beautiful balance. Not newgrass, a very traditional feel ..... these boysd come from my roots and they sing about the home ground I grew up in. Total area identification for me.....
