Whiteman's banjoist was Mike Pingatore. "The King of Jazz" movie is a fun (I watched it too) early sound film. 96yrs old!
If you go to YouTube, you can watch many Vitaphone shorts of 1920s dance bands...many more Tenor and Plectrum banjos. The Gus Arnheim Orchestra's banjoist plays a Paramount Tenortrope (wood topped banjo) that sounds like an early electric guitar! About 8:17 in this video.

The Gus Arnheim short was neat! The banjoist also played straight guitar, which spent most of its time in a stand, but it looked like an old Martin. Was he playing a B&D banjo most of the time? He also played some violin too. Busy.

I really like that bass fiddle player!
