I’m not sure he’s near enough, Mark, but Jason Burns at Homewood Music in Birmingham is, in my experience, an excellent luthier. (He’s also built some highly regarded banjos.) Perhaps worth checking out/talking to, if you can’t find someone closer.

Jason Burns does impeccable work. He is a perfectionist and his work shows it.
He stays busy so expect some extra time wait time.
Visits to his shop are enjoyable to boot!
