While I’ve got good fishing close to home , the grass is always greener!!!
Myself, my Son and my little fishin buddy are headed to Oconto, Wisconsin to go fish for perch and walleye on Green Bay . For those not familiar with, Green Bay is a perch sanctuary that is on the rebound the last few years. The limit is 15 per person per day. We are going for 3 days and hope to come home with a few meals of my favorite eating fish.
Cheap hotel………well, really the only hotel, mom and pop restaurants and a great bait shop!!! What more do you need? Oh yeah, Cold Beer. Got it covered!!!
I’ll report back in a few days. Wish us luck!!!
Slammer!!
We fished for perch off the Port Dalhousie (pronounced 'Daloozie') pier a lot as kids,, bike down there with poles, worms, and a P&J sandwich and spend the afternoon. A few years later they advised everyone to eat fish out of Lake Amer… err Ontario only once a year. Three paper mills’ effluent, plus GM factories, Hamilton steel plant, etc. doomed the quality of the water back then in the 1950’s, 60’s. It’s a lot cleaner nowadays though.

dang 6 footers in a jon boat will make you appreciate reaching land
Well, home from our trip and Mother Nature can kiss my azz!!! She may as well, as she kicked it for 3 days with south winds stirring up Green Bay into a frenzy. We took some risk going out as far as we did, with a smaller boat than everyone, but stayed within our limits and managed to bring home 9 lbs. of perch and a big bag full of sheephead filets for beer camp. The perch we did keep were beautiful jumbos!!!
Late yesterday Afternoon the wind layed down for a bit and we managed over 50 perch, but lots of smalls. Not an ideal trip but we came home with fish. Oconto, Wisconsin is a neat little town and everything was convenient for a trip like that. Will definitely do it again!!!

what is that ,,about an hour and a half drive from your place to oconto ? dang you do live way up there slammer !
Yup, about 1.5 hours. Same body of water that I live on , just further north.
We used to have a perch population like Oconto area, but not anymore. The size and numbers of fish we scoped was just incredible. The amount of bait fish was incredible. All these fish are constantly moving and foraging. There was no light bite, you knew when you had a bite. If it weren’t for the wind , we would have limited each day,
Slammer!!!
Owen that’s so damn funny, as we had Little Debbie Nutty Buddies,Honeybuns, Party cakes and Star Crunch cakes. We were prepared to say the least!!! Came home with most of them.
Slammer!!!
