I have lots of favorites including When You and I Were Young Maggie, Gum Tree Canoe and Blackest Crow. My favorite song to pick in a jam, however, is I'll Fly Away because so many know it and can sing verses, take breaks or provide back ground call / repeats. It just seems like it's always fun because so many can contribute.

It varies and changes from time to time . Right now i cant get enough of Run ,by Volume Five, and Long Gone , by Authentic Unlimited.
Favorite banjo numbers would include Midnight Ramble and Fling Ding by the Stanley Brothers.

No!

My brother and I are not Japanese. My brother's wife is Japanese and they moved to Japan in 2018. It's the second time they've lived there and this time it's permanent.

I have always said Earl's Breakdown by Flatt & Scruggs is the best instrumental. Exquisite banjo, wonderful fiddle by Howdy Forrester, great old fashioned mandolin break by Everett Lilly, and even Lester Flatt gets to contribute two solo notes in every chorus!

After that I like Bill Monroe's "Tall Timber" because it is so nearly "out of control". VERY fast, but uneven, the craziest bass fiddle line ever recorded, and somehow the band manages to keep it together to the end!

For vocals I really like "Give This Message to Your Heart" by the Osborne Brothers with Ira Louvin joining the trio. Also When the Golden Leaves Begin to Fall, and "I Hear a Voice Calling" by Bill Monroe. The Window Up Above by the Stanley Brothers. Where Did Our Young Years Go by Reno & Smiley with Mac Wiseman singing the third parts. I'll Go Stepping Too by Flatt & Scruggs. Rock Hearts and also Night by Jimmy Martin. Beautiful Star of Bethlehem by Ralph Stanley and Keith Whitley.
