N got real good at building left handed banjos..

I am not only left handed but I suffer from the condition of "backlexia."
I play right handed instruments but upside down. I play lefty.

Just came back from blue ridge banjo camp. I wish oyu could see Kristin's face whenshe told me I was fingering things incorrectly. I reminder her I was playing upside down. She shook her head in ashtonishment.

I gave my banjo toanother lefty who played a left handed banjo. He couldn't play it. I've been this way for 55 years.

I amhoping to obtain a handicapped sticker. Ya Think?

Now that he's outed himself, I can say that Mike is the upside-down-playing camper who was one of my bunkhouse mates at Blue Ridge Banjo Camp last week. Close your eyes and you can't tell there's anything different about his playing.

we in the same boat brother,,,, i been playing like that for ,,, well since 78  i waited until 2000 to get robin smith to build me a tunneled 5th string neck for my old banjo and it was like night and day.....no more peg to dig into my palm and i got faster and opened up some new territory for me......

and i got the same reaction from sonny and raymond fairchild first time they saw me !!!!

here is the best pic i could find of it.. notice no 5th string peg and 5 pegs in the peghead......  makes life so much easier......

THANKS FOR THE KIND WORDS. YOU ARE CORRECT- WHEN YOU HEAR ME PLAY, YOU CAN'T TELL THE DIFFERENCE. ALL OF US PLAY OUT OF TUNE- EXCEPT EARL, BELA AND TONY. LOL

5 th is on  the bottom for me.. if you look close you can see the ivory nut at the 5th fret for the string... it goes inside the neck and comes out beside the bell on the peg head for the center tuner.

  so yes any right hander can play this one .

Couldn't agree more about Steve Louvat, I met him several times here in The Lowlands.

He's a really good guy and so is Jefferson.

In the eighties and nineties we had a good picker in the Netherlands, Henri de Ridder, who played his home made left hand banjo really, really well.

Can't remember the occasion, but we once played twin (uni sono) banjo's, standing next to each other, me on the left and he on the right.

He reached over and picked mine and picked his. Of course we fretted our own banjo's, but the result was fun and not bad at all. I wish we would have had camera phones back then, but it was to early for that....

Jimmy ippolito has been playing lefty since he was in high school.he loves Scruggs style.hes 73 now .played a iaida for years .has a bowtie now.plays All styles of guitar he's really good at it . only Lefty in my area.central ill
