Well, this is the Third year in a row our view has been taken away from us and our house stinks and can’t go outside due to severe poor air quality from the wild fires in Canada.
Woke up this morning at 3:15 am and thought we had a fire n the house. The smell woke me up and panicked. There is even a boating warning on Northern Lake Michigan as visibility on the water is that poor.

Love my Canuck neighbors to da north, but I’m thinking us Yoopers are gonna have to build a wall !!! Any other BHOers being affected by this?

We've had a couple of days with a slight haze... almost enough to make the sun red.  I realize it can be tough for those with respiratory problems [I/we don't], but can offer no worthwhile advice.

Onto a tangent, but one time up on a fly-in reserve when I got to school in the a.m. I commented on the pleasant smell of wood smoke in the air.  Ooops!! ... turns out a house had burned during the nite. [I guess my saving grace was that nobody was iin it at the time??]

Here on Cape Cod - many hundreds of miles away from those fires - our sky has been seriously occluded by smoke for the past few days. Air quality alerts are up as well, even though most of the smoke has remained well above ground level. National Weather Service says it'll likely be Friday before it dissipates.

And yes, the source is the fires in midwestern Canada. The plume is highly visible on satellite imagery.

Here on Colorado's western slope, wildfire smoke is a daily issue. Tens of thousands of acres destroyed with no relief in sight. The drought, coupled with single-digit humidity and windy conditions, has resulted in the death of several brave firefighters. If we fail to get some relief from the monsoon season, things don't look good.

Just got back from town and it’s worse than I thought. Eyes burning, throat burning and ashy soot on my windows. Visibility is really terrible like bad fog.
This is not good for anyone!!!

Where’s nakigreengrass when we need him….?
it's clear skies here in Calgary but we had smoky summers for years in the recent past.  However, if the wind starts coming from the northeast we're gagging

We're getting effects from it here in CT: weirdly yellow sky, red sun, very dark and overcast sky. It looks like an eclipse or a bad storm coming. Air quality listed as dangerous. There's a slight smell of chemical-y smoke outside.

Same here in Hingham, on Boston's South Shore, as Skip King described.
The smoky haze dimmed the sun and prevented the temperature from rising into the 90s. Can we thus conclude that carbon, in the form of smoke, inhibits global warming?

Air quality of 334 this morning in Michigan on a normal scale from 0 to 300. I thought there was a house fire or something near me.

It's here in W PA.

So hazy outside you 'd think it was a fog.

It was like that here on Tuesday and Wednesday. There's still some in the air today, but nothing like previously. Latest satellite animations show that it's moved somewhat south of here... now on more of a northwest to southeast direction.

Indeed Dave. Maybe there's a way we could process/package it and the ship it across the Gordie Howe Bridge.  [As I understand it, smoke from coniferous trees is almost as effective as tobacco smoke.]   wink

The Medicinal History of Tobacco Smoke Enemas

Haze here this a.m. was more fog than smoke I think ... we were able to get some "quiet enjoyment of our property"* ...  coffee on the back deck without having the sun shine in our eyes.   [I thought it was the first time this season, but my lovely and talented assistant says we had a day back in the spring.]  yes

* a phrase I picked up from a Nova Scotia land deed.

Seems to me it would be a lot easier just to redirect the smoke with a Sharpie like he did with that hurricane.

I think you must impose a tax on all foreigners living abroad... No don't do that !! .. We had a local government candidate around 1980 who had the right answer. Someone asked him how he would act toward the environment. He said "I would pave all of it then I wouldn't have to deal with it". [He was known as Richard the Troll and he had no intention of really winning .]

Tis probably worse for those people with houses and property being destroyed by the fire.
