I just found your you tube page--if you play all of these --you are certainly worthy of promoting them in my one track mind--reminds me of banjo snapper--(Tim Twiss )that used to post a lot of notated early banjo on a fretless
youtube.com/@earlyenglishbanjo/videos

but I still differ on the view that-- it is the only finger style

I don't think we differ that much at all. From what I've read, none of us interested finger-style players here are claiming there is one 'single' fingerstyle. More like there are modern variations within a broad 'family' of style and likely having a common ancestor. Lawrence posted a beautiful original composition on this thread that he referred to as Travis picking.  When I saw his video I immediately recognised all the similarities with the technique I play. Maybe there were some subtle differences, but no doubt a form of finger-style.

Sometimes we don't recognise what we have in common, instead of what appears to separate us.

Great! That would be one type of content that we could post to a finger-style forum.

I'd be happy to record and share some Sousa marches from time to time.

Why can't you post it in this forum?

Jan, you are missing the core point.

All other banjo styles (including the mysterious invention of 'Rock banjo') have specific, signposted recognition and home space on BHO. Our quite reasonable and easily understandable suggestion is that fingerstyle - as a style with a foundational place in banjo history and contemporary continuity and potential - doesn't have parity.

It is not for finger-style players to 'justify' our suggestion. It is for those who deny the designated inclusive space that they enjoy, to explain that needless disrespect.

In an earlier post you got yourself in a pickle attempting to make comparison using 'genre' and 'technique'. If you re-read your own post you'll maybe now realise that you contradicted yourself, and in your effort to deny-by-comparison you actually made the precise point for a designated finger-style space. I realise that English is not your first language. I would get myself into a far more convoluted pickle if I attempted anything in Swedish. :-)

You seem to be saying that no specific mention of finger-style should not be an issue. Yet you are not a finger-style player,  and therefore not affected by that neglect. Maybe it's an excellent opportunity for you to listen to those who are and learn

Personally, my feeling is this forum would be appropriate if the top-level wording was amended to specifically include 'finger-style'. I would feel encouraged and motivated to post finger-style content here that I don't at present. No-one is suggesting Eric is landed with an unreasonable or unnecessary drain on his time and effort.

Something along the lines: 'Finger-style, Classical, and Guitar Banjo.' would be straightforward.
