I'd guess the one here is some limited production anomaly. Possibly a prototype as Wayne guesses. Or a short-run design change before the model went out of production. Who knows?
The Washburns with the springloaded brass slugs were made in Japan. They were heavily advertised on the back cover of Frets Magazine during the late '70s-early '80s, a few years before production moved to Korea. I have no idea how many were sold but I did play one at a guitar shop in Saratoga, CA.
