I've never had much interest in Pete Seeger's music, but I've always respected him for being unwilling to cooperate with the Red Baiters. The Red Scare was primarily a way for politicians to gain and maintain power. As a strategy for that purpose, it's been superseded by the promotion of xenophobia.
His recordings weren’t earth-shattering, but I heard he could get a live audience in the palm of his hand, especially when he got them singing along. But I looked up his songwriting credits - quite impressive ! And of course he did a lot to promote & popularize the banjo.
