Realistically, a couple grand at most, maybe less. It's a Lange-made example, and the sliding capo is an abomination.

At one time, it would have been about $2,500 in good, playable condition. As it is, John’s pretty much nailed it. Openbacks, even good ones, have been losing value for close to ten years now, and are still drifting downward in value.

Is there a serial number for this banjo? I'd like to determine if it's in the database that I maintain. If it has no number, I might have it already but I'm not quite ready to go through all the ones without serial numbers to check. I do have an early one with 12 f-holes which has the same front peg head inlay but the back of the peg head is different.

Fantastic instrument. At one time was my dream banjo.

As mentioned above, these vintage banjos have been decreasing in value for some time. Probably has to do with the change in young folks tastes in banjos and the sound they produce as they now want “thumpy” sounding banjos with scoops and the what not.

Seems strange that such an instrument would be worth under 3k now days, but that seems to be the current fact of value.

If I was in the realm of still adding to my collection, I would put an offer in, but I’m on the other end of the spectrum and starting to look to reducing the collection, which seems to be the case with many other collectors I know. Probably has a lot to do with the reduction in instrument values in the past 5-10 years.
