Do you know who ordered it? That's a beauty of a neck. Surprised they didn't order a maple veneer resonator to match. Nice banjo.

I don't know who ordered it. I wonder what the upcharge was for a "Custom feature, like that. One thing about Gibson if you ordered something 'custom" they always gave you nice wood, this neck is no exception, that finish really brings out the grain.

do you have shipping records to say this is a custom? or just going off the neck and the truss rod cover?

"I'm not looking to debate the factory records or prove the provenance—the instrument speaks for itself to those who know these mid-60s builds. Just wanted to share a cool piece of Gibson history. Thanks for looking!"

Well…..that certainly is a nice one! Never seen a custom from the 60’s like that.

Thanks for posting the photos.

Bowtie Collectors, please let me know if you have seen another one like it. The Banjo has full thick brown rim, 20 hole ring and a sweet curly maple tone for sure. Enjoy the photos.

Nobody is doubting the provenance of your banjo. The finish of the neck and resonator are so close over the different woods that being Gibson factory is the only thing that makes sense. We're just curious if factory records could shed some more light on this bad boy. We live for the unusual around here.

What's not unusual is that a custom one-off could have been given to an artist with wide TV exposure. This banjo was made around the time as Larry Ramos's (New Christy Minstrels) RB-500-L long neck (only one ever made) and John Stewart's (Kingston Trio) RB-180, also a long neck.
