Hey! Thanks for the kind words everyone!
Clint, I have a lot of other videos on my YouTube channel that would likely be appropriate after completing the 10 lesson series. Good luck!
Hi Jim,
On a wild hair I purchased a banjo and anytime I tried to learn from a book I was so intimidated my mind closed down. Two weeks ago I found this series of videos. I can now fumble my way through Cripple Creek to the point where listeners could maybe even know what the song is. I am learning the first lesson of Banjo in the Hollow.
Just wanted to let you know that your lessons are still helping and inspiring people.
Thanks for taking your time to make them.
Clinte89 Jim's videos, and there are plenty, are top notch. However, if you must stray, and if you want a similar style for songs he may not have listed yet, try Bill Nesbitt (williamanesbitt on Youtube). Similar teaching style to his videos, pretty easy to follow.
Jim Pankey, my kids are demanding I learn Dooley (they are early Dillards fans), can you help me out with that one? I'm sure your request list is extensive, but my girls are adorable if that helps move this one up at all. Thanks for what you do.

I have the kickoff to Dooley out there on my Channel. It's here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bytib45AmfQ
The best way to learn to play the banjo correctly is to get a real live teacher. Look on the left hand side of the page and under Learn, click find a teacher. You can refine your search by clicking on advanced search.
You can learn via Skype and the internet. We have several excellent teacher who teach that way.
You can learn via books and CD/DVDs. There are many excellent beginner books with CD/DVDs.
Whatever method you decide, good luck. Banjo is fun and frustrating to learn, so don't expect to be able to play fast when you first start. Get the basics down before you try for any speed.

For y'all that have been working through my videos it'd be awesome to see/hear how you've progressed.
Hi Jim,
I started playing early July last year, and found your starter series a few days later. I’ve been trying to keep a running tab on progress in a twitter thread: https://twitter.com/fredrikpaulsson/status/1015536974227214336?s=21
Most of the songs are out of your videos, and gives a pretty neat timeline, I think. Be wary if you try to translate the (Swedish) commentary, Bing doesn’t quite get it right. At some point it tried to translate “banjo” (same word in Swedish) to “banana” (?!). But the recordings and the name of the songs are easy enough to find.
Thanks so much - I have about 50 more songs to get through on your tune tutorials so I’ll be with you for quite a while longer. :)
FredrikP !! Thanks so much for sharing your banjo journey. You're doing great!
Keep picking! Can't wait to share your twitter feed!

My name is Nathan. You don't know me, but over the past 3 months, you and I have had some pretty good conversations.
I've been through these lessons on your YouTube channel and have learned a lot. I'll sit and talk to you on the TV during the video and my kids, at one point, figured I'd lost it. Your lessons are easy to follow and I've been learning pretty well. I'm pretty confident with Cripple Creek. I struggle through the Ballad of Jed Clampett. But I'm learning a few licks and things to make it interesting.
When I tell others about my banjo playing, I tell them that I have a great instructor (you). Once they realize that it's a YouTube channel, they figure I've lost it also. I bought your collection of music tabs for the banjo online the other day and am getting started with that.
Thanks for posting those videos. They've turned me from a struggling beginner novice into a struggling beginner novice with confidence.

Nathan,
Thanks. Glad you've lost it. You'd have thought the family would have figured that out when you got the banjo, right? lol
Just keep plugging away. Don't bite of more than you can chew, and don't be afraid to just sit and polish a few measures until it all makes sense in your head.
I'm thrilled to be part of your banjo journey.
Having failed miserably to learn how to play my banjo as a youngster in the 60's, it gathered dust in the corner of a room for fifty years.....and then I stumbled across your videos on youtube.
You make learning better than stress free; you make it a joy.
Many, many thanks from Cornwall

It wasn't me!
I wonder if he's bought one yet!
Hey Jim.....been a long time since "the lounge".....
Do you have a list of what songs are being taught in what video lessons...??
I probably could learn something by just watching all the videos, but I have a few songs that are on my "list" and wondering if you might have them in your lesson videos.

Hey Gordon! It's been a while... I teach a few tunes in the beginner series, but mostly what I'm teaching there are concepts that can be applied to other songs. I do have a handful of other videos on YouTube where I teach a bunch of different songs. You can find my channel here: https://www.youtube.com/user/wildjimbo
