Buy the way linna291, I wore my black, Dan Post cowboy boots. Comfortable, but manly.

There was a downside. They had to rake the indentations from my cuban heels out of the mound when I walked away.

Rob,

Congratulations for that awesome experience.

I have been studying your FMB lessons and it is helping me a lot, you are a great teacher. Now that you have that Liberty banjo, could you do a lesson for the up-the-neck part?

Rob,

No rush on getting the banjo back. I know where to find you. Plus with you playing it the value on the Liberty has to go up!

Russ,

That is the best darn banjo around. When I was a young guy, Pickin' Magazine had that one on the back cover of their magazine, at a bar in Ann Arbor I used to play at called Mr. Flood's Party.

That banjo even made Mr. Flood's look good. I love the sound of that tone ring.

I had a major breakthrough with my pro audio on my Mac, so I should be able to get to some lessons soon.

Thanks Stony. None of the fixes anyone gave me worked. There isn't an interface that doesn't cause latency with this beast. I finally just recorded through my studio equipment to disc, popped the disc in i-tunes, synced it up and let er' roll.

It's a little more time than I wanted to spend to produce free videos, but that's the way it goes. I have my buddy Russ' banjo so I am making a few vids while it's here. Hope to get some time tomorrow.

First: many thanks for this great lesson.

I can play FMB (not up to your standard) and my wife does a great rhythm guitar backup.

Now I know it's cheeky to ask for more after you've done so much: but would you consider recording an intermediate level guitar break for FMB (no need for the detailed instruction) so that a back-up guitarist could follow it. It would add so much to our act!

Nice Nice videos! I learned the foggy mountain tabs, but these sure helped alot. One thing I did do however was add some of my own style to the mix to make it more "interesting". Thanks for the help!

Rob, just wanted to thank you for posting these videos. It's nice to see you get so much well deserved recognition for it. I have spent the last hour just reading all the comments on the forum. Time I should have been practising no doubt, but it was worthwhile. I've been working on your Cripple Creek video and while I'm not finished polishing it of yet, I'm hoping to be soon just to give my wife and kids a break....Hoping to get started on FMB very soon after that. Thanks again. It is a pleasure to listen to your videos and read your replies you give here. My two boys Isaac (4) and Mason (2)already know your name and want to listen to your videos with their Dad. Keep up the good work and best wishes to your son in Afghanastan.

Hi Rob,
Just wanted to say thanks for the lessons, just "discovered you 1 week ago and am up to Part 2 of FMB.
I just could'nt get the timing right even though I had the tab, and had looked at others playing it. Had been working on it on and off for some 4 months.

Breaking it down into small parts really helps me. Looking forward to the "up the neck" part of FMB when you have it completed.

Cheers, Richard

Glad to help all. I haven't done a rhythm video for any of the banjo lessons, mainly because of the time involved. I have made them out for my private Skype students, and I will search my files and see if I have one. I delete most of those so I don't take up too much room on my hard drive.

Thanks for the encouragement concerning my videos, and support for my son and our troops. I have had a crazy week. I am overdue with 5 recording projects at this point, and my dad has been ill, my daughter is having a graduation party, I have been commandeered into painting and a lot of last minute preparation, so I haven't been making much headway.

I hope the coming week is better.

You're kidding, right?? Sounds like you didn't even had time to sleep. I hope next week will be better for you indeed.

All the best with your Dad, congrats on your daughter's graduation and I'm keeping your son in my thoughts.

Rob, thanks to your family and your son for his service. My son is a Marine as well. He's now a sgt. currently state-side. He's been to Iraq twice, the first time was the initial invasion of the second Iraq War (2003). This was his primary weapon one time, a SAW (M249) the other time.

He's had some close calls but has survived so far.

Back to music. I thought you were just humble in your banjo self-evaluations. That is until I saw some of your guitar stuff. I came across it by accident from (I think) the Guitar Magazine forum (or possibly the Keyboard section which is what I usually read). Wow.

To all the rest of you, if you haven't witnessed it, Rob is an extremely accomplished guitar player.

Holy mackerel, Rob!

I had never strummed a banjo until last Saturday when I bought one. Now, three days later, I know the opening phrase to the most famous banjo tune out there. (Well, OK, if you're gonna argue, I know a little bit of Dueling Banjos, too.) :) OK, so I've played (at) mountain dulcimer for years and already kind of had fingerpicked rolls down.

One month from now, I'm going to post a video to YouTube of me playing Foggy Mountain Breakdown. It may not be up to speed and it obviously will be far from perfect, but after spending thirty minutes with these lessons, I actually think I can do it.

Thank you so much for the lessons and the inspiration!

Isn't it amazing. I had it down at the speed of the second companion video in about a month. He did an amazing job teaching it. He also did Cripple Creek and thanks to that I can play Earl's version almost to speed. I have only had my banjo about three months now, and while I did play guitar for a long time it was only rhythm style with very little picking. Rob's instruction and method of breaking down the phrases is fantastic.

Rob,
I just want to add my name to the list of folks who are thankful for your lesson. I've had some trouble with the timing of the first lick (the double hammer G lick) even though I bought a couple of different instructional videos, but neither was as clear as yours. Your clear instructions cleared it right up and I got the hang of it in about five minutes. Thank you so much!
