What do you get if you take the great Foggy Mountain Banjo track and drag it behind a jeep for a week? Something like this. Recorded Nov, 2006.
Update: I recorded this before I listened to the Carter Family version of the tune. Now that I understand the song a little better, I try not to stray as far from the melody. See my blog for more about the Carter version and why I think it is important.

Thanks Rick. I just listened to "How Great Thou Art" on your music page, and I think you got it backwards. It is you that is good and me that is envious!

simple...sweet. One of my favorites ever since I heard Ralph Rinzler do at as back-up for Joan Baez in 1960!

That's a great arrangement and your syncopation is very pleasing to the ear.

Outstanding - that's just so beautiful in its simplicity. Banjo music is 'good time' music, so why does it so often make me eyes go damp and starts my old chin a quiverin'? I guess it's remembering the simpler life years ago, when youth hadn't yet been scarred by scepticism brought on by adulthood. [Still can't find that pesky old 'rate this tune' button - is there one?]

Nice smooth, lyrical picking. Good bounce. Put up some more.

Once again, your particular style comes through like a breath of fresh air. Good playing Matt.
