I'm back to working on this one, experimenting, looking for the pieces that will make a cohesive whole. Suggestions for improvements would be very welcome. I learned the basics of this tune from David Bragger.

Sounds real good to me. I heard some nice slides and pitch contrasts. Do you have anything specific you'd want to do differently? I like to hear Doc Watson play it and let it seep into me. He's amazing.

I almost always play by myself, so I have the luxury of experimenting--feeling delighted when something works and not worrying too much when it doesn't.

But, I have it in my head that, just once, I want to prove to myself that I can play cleanly in a contest setting. I don't have to win a prize. I just want to come away feeling like I did very close to my best. This is one of my strongest, most interesting tunes so I'm trying to create a three-times-through almost-static version that I can practice in the same way repeatedly.

There's one little place in this run through where I play three notes the same in one phrase and then change it up. Every time it catches my ear, I like it. I'm hoping to pick out those moments and arrange them into something that feels good as a whole. And I definitely want to settle in and groove the C part. If I have a strength, I'm thinking that's where it is.

Anyway, I don't have anything specific in mind yet so suggestions from an outside ear would be helpful. And then I think I need to just buckle down and do the work to come up with something that I like. And then practice it like crazy! :)
