I think this hymn was first written around 1880 or so by the Rev. Josiah K. Atwood. I've heard a few different versions over the years, including a great one from my friend Bonnie, but I think I was finally driven to work out an arrangement after listening to Hobart Smith. Mac Traynham and Shay Garriock also have a nice fiddle and banjo take on their "Turkey on the Mountain" album. My friend Meghan Dudle on fiddle (fiddle is tuned to DDAD), and I'm playing a Menzies gut strung tack-banjo in standard tuned down to D.

One of my favorites. A great banjo and fiddle duet.
