What a great sound! It's got a lot of drive without feeling rushed. I love it.

This particular Flatwoods (taken from an mp3 recording of a practice session) is a version A learned from the fiddling of Tommy Jarrell. Norman Edmonds' version of Flatwoods, which is from the FRC CD taken from a radio show with Edmonds & the Old Timers & is a bit different. Edmonds usually played with clawhammer player Rufus Quesinberry (sp?) is on it, along with his sons on guitars, but there are some fantastic semi-secretly-traded recordings of Edmonds with Wade Ward's old style fingerpicking, as well as some with flat-out bluegrass banjo. There were definitely many banjo styles in the 50s & 60s around Galax!
