Genre: Fiddle/Celtic/Irish / Playing Style: 4-String (Tenor/Plectrum)
Here is a tune that has stuck with me for over ten years now, and is a staple for me when I play at Old folks homes and such. On the fiddle I treat it as a ballad style, and on the Tenor Banjo more of a dance tune. I have heard many Irish bands play this tune at "sub-light speed", and then again have heard fiddlers play it quite slowly and sweetly.
Hope you enjoy

A really pretty tune. I've often heard it played sadder, but it's not a sad song. Thanks for reminding me, I think I'll play it happier next time!

Thanks Janet. Yes, it actually is a happy song. I have a piece that is called Blind Mary written by Turlough O'Carolan that I don't have the lyrics to, but when I play it the music doesn't sound sad, but it is played quite slowly (around 84) and in 2/4. i transcribed it to 4/4 so my friends can follow along. A lot of them don't understand the 2/4 concept. I play it on Tenor Guitar GDae.
I listen to you sound files there, and I see you have quite a minstrel style. Very nice indeed.
