Recorded on a cassette directly off of WUNC radio in April 1992. Mr. Shaw & Overton were on a now out-of-print CD, "Sal With the Run Down Shoe." They were fine old-time musicians who proved you didn't have to live in the mountains to play good old-time stringband music. Folklorist Wayne Martin (who is a very fine fiddler in his own right) plays guitar on this tune. Mr. Shaw was from Harnett county & Mr. Overton lived in Garner outside Raleigh, was born in Granville county but moved to CHatham as boy. Nary a mountain in sight!
This was recorded when A. C. was usually heard playing a Gibson Mastertone--he also had an openback Gibson (custom RB-185) with a MT ring. He played with 3 picks--thumb & 2 finger picks but rarely used the third finger except to "rake" upward for emphasis.

Every one of the few recordings of Overton I have loved; why is there nothing commercially available, and, more importantly, why is there no statue in his honour?
