Quite amazing to hear Soldier's Joy played all the way from China. That's one of THE tunes to learn when you're learning to clawhammer. Sounds nice. How long have you been playing?

Thank you! Playing Since 2008. I can't find any banjo teacher in China. So I teach myself. Still a novice.

Great job! I'll assume you're learning with tablature (tab). There are lots of tabs on-line if you look. Lots right here on Banjo Hangout.
Best wishes,
Janet B.

I was wondering if you have heard of Abigail Washburn, a great clawhammer player who lived for 5 years in China and then returned to tour there. She also sang songs in Chinese and played them with clawhammer banjo.

P.S. It's not yet sunset here with a full moon tomorrow. It must be morning in your neck of the woods?

I have heard of Abigail Washburn. And I was surprised that she can speak fluent Mandarin. Her husband is Bela Fleck. What a couple!
P.S. It is afternoon in China.

Excellent tone, and touch! You're doing very well.
It's difficult to learn clawhammer, without a teacher
to SHOW you how to do it.

Thank you, Ed!
Yes. It's difficult to learn to play banjo by myself. Actually, it's difficult to find a banjo in China. I purchased my first banjo in Guangzhou and bought a banjo book in Hong Kong (can't find any banjo books in Guangzhou) in 2008. It was a resonator banjo. After months to learn 3-finger style, I switched to clawhammer style. I removed the resonator. I teach myself to play using books, internet (youtube, websites), DVDs.
