Genre: Jazz / Playing Style: 4-String (Tenor/Plectrum)

Recorded this in October 2009 after Arthur Hatfield installed one of Paul Ebbe's Mastertone-type flathead tone rings in my TB-1. Don't think this recording really captures the banjo's new richness of tone. Played it with a flatpick in Chicago (guitar) tuning.

Nice job, Dick. I just discovered this must be new.

Thanks, John and Ike! I played this banjo in the jam session at the end of the Tribute to Bix festival in Racine, Wis., last weekend. There was a lot of great 1920s jazz, with Brooklyn's Vince Giordano participating in much of it. He played string bass, tuba and bass sax as usual (sometimes switching during a tune) with his own Nighthawks, and also did a fine job on tenor banjo and guitar with another band. The banjoist with the other bands was Leah Bezin, a great tenor player. Got me fired up enough that I've tuned one of my tenors to CGDA, but I'm not sure I'll be able to train my fingers to hit all the chords at tempo.

What a great tune. Like the rhthym and I didn't realize the Chicago tuning sounded so good.
