Turlough O’Carolan was of a high spirited and gregarious nature. He enjoyed food and drink in generous abundance. However, he could be irascible and cantankerous when denied. He showered his displeasure upon one Bridget Waldron, an extremely stingy landlady, who proved reluctant to provide fair portions. Carolan wrote a disparaging poem to her at her gravesite and composed this piece of music to go with it. Our arrangement emphasizes the distinct influence of the Italian Baroque style on Carolan’s work. Composed by Ireland's National Composer, Turlough O'Carolan (1670 - 1738), performed by the Angel Band, Album: Come Under My Protection © 1998-2010 The Angel Band, all rights reserved. David Behm, Guitar; Cathryn Norris, Violin; Emery Hutchins, Concertina & Bodhran; Bob Paul. Hammered Dulcimer; Mary Paul, Celtic Harp; Bob Frost. 5-String Banjo; Mark Rockwood, Mandolin.

Thanks, Steve. Carolan's melodies seemed timeless to us and they're fun to play with unusual uses of (implied) chord changes. The 215 compositions attributed to him are single staff, single line melodies.

Wonderful! I'm a big O'Carolan fan, recently watched a nice arrangement of Lord Inchiquin played on the banjo on YouTube:
