These Australian bush ballad/folk songs were originally done as an experiment to see if they would work in more of a bluegrass-style idiom.  There are a lot of these tunes mainly of Irish or Scottish in origin that I hadn't heard played using this type of approach so I thought it might be fun to mess around with. I've actually got about 6 more arranged or conceptualized but I haven't got around to demo-ing them yet.

Great stuff Gavan, really enjoyed hearing that song so well played. Made me get Always loved the bush bands like the Bushwackers, The Cobbers and Mulga Bill's Bicycle Band, in Melbourne in the seventies. Thanks for bringing some unique Australian folk music to the hangout and don't fear, bluegrass style. I have heard every genre of music you could list done bluegrass style recently, but Aussie folk tunes are perfect in this style.

Thanks all, for your compliments. The idea is to encourage all of us in the land down-under  to play more of our own folk music in both bluegrass and clawhammer styles.  Many of the tunes translate pretty well with some poetic licence when it comes to the melody and rhythm structure. I've got versions of Lachlan Tigers and Euabalong Ball worked out to some extent, and others like Lazy Harrys, Ryebuck Shearer and The Old Palmer Song have potential although as yet they are WIP so to speak.

Alan, I'm playing Broadbeach Blues Fest. in May so I'll be up your way then. I may even be doing something in Ballina with Ross Ward but I'll let you know. We can maybe hook up for a pick & a beer (and not necessarily in that order).
