I've always played this tune in D, but realized that I couldn't sing worth a lick in that key. So I'm singing and playing it in A. The bonus for listeners comes at the very end when my fifth string pops. I thought you all might want to hear the train wreck.

Yes you are right Dean!  The ending is quite dramatic.  Do you always end this song that way?

That was fun!

Well, it's a dramatic ending that I thought I would preserve, just to prove that the best laid plans by mice and men often go awry. Looking back, I kinda like it.

One man's woe is another man's whoa, I reckon.

That reminded me of the time (so I heard) when an orchestral bassist had the tail piece rope give way during a performance, and the bridge flew about 15 feet up in the air.  That is more violence than any musician should have to experience during a live performance.  I'm glad you survived the snapped string without much wear and tear.

BTW, nice tune and singing, as usual.

I sure like your approach...both your voice and your straight-foward banjo style.

I take the Andrew Jackson approach to playing music. Old Hickory said: "Take time to deliberate; but when the time for action arrives, stop thinking and go in."

A wonderful performance, even before the "whoa!"  Life is too short to stop and try to correct all of one's mishaps, better to celebrate them.  A truly dramatic ending, but it's going to be hard to tab out!

"Give the dollar to that gal of mine, but this old dime is mine."  One of the best lines in old-time music.
