The banjo is tuned aEAC#E, is derived from Burl Hammons' fiddling and has three Galax licks in the 1st part. The approach, to the two consecutive thumbs on the 5th string, happens in three different ways. The first is a roll across the strings, the second is a hammer on the 1st string to the 4th fret and the last is comes after a single strike on the 1st string.

Thanks, Carl! I've been looking for tab for this tune, but with your recording, I think I'll try to work it out by ear.

Sounds really nice, and should go well with a friend's fiddle work.

Very cool, I've never heard that done before.  Nice picking.

Absolutely beautiful! This got played by a fiddler at our last jam and I loved it. Led me to Rhys Jones and Burl Hammons versions and a nice version on youtube (youtube.com/watch?v=r2-Nkx2qaVs). The b (or low) part was pretty easy to figure out on banjo but I knew the A part was going to be a challenge and having a clean and interesting banjo version is great! Thanks!
