Frank Proffitt had a voice like an angel...He was also a very gifted banjo player, unique in his approach to music...He went to a music festival in Chicago, Illonois with his hand made , diminutive fretless ...in a paper bag for traveling [no beautiful case here]...He said he was very impressed with all the beautiful banjos and their resonators, and felt out of place...Of course this mostly unknown, historically important musician won the top honors at the festival that year. His recording of Bp Lambkin stands alone as does his Johnson Boys, Baby O,Alabama gals, Going across the mountain, Hard Times On The Beaver Dam Road........If he sang it, it was bound to be an improvement on former versions of the song....
