Galvanized metal bent into an 8 inch ring and JB welded. Brass ring JB welded on top. If I had access to 8 inch PVC pipe, it would have saved me a lot of trouble

Yoppy, I looked for a pipe of the right spec when I made mine and initially the closest thing I could find was a section of stovepipe. However, this was a bit too thin. Eventually I found a cast aluminium plant pot in the local hardware store (I bought up several for future projects). I cut through the 'open' end to create a ring of the right depth. I've heard of kettles and saucepans being cut down in the same way to make rings. I like your finished result though - particularly the tailpiece tuning mechanism. John
