Just whittled this one up with a pocket knife and a few abalone shell scraps. :)
Amazing detail and craftsmanship these Asian builders are getting now and it didn't sound half bad either!

Rob, that banjo seems famiiar. I've had it in my hands before, I'm sure in several pieces. Is it custom made and did you buy it locally?

Hi Bill.
It's not mine. Belongs to a lady who came to our Old Timey Jam last Sunday.
It was bought new here in Adelaide and is an Asian 'Masterclone' with heaps of fancy pearl and abalone.
I've seen them before with different inlays and brand names. I think they're made by the Strauss Co in Korea or China. Another I've seen had an inlay of 'The Mayflower' on the back instead of the eagle.

Ok, it's probably not the same banjo. A local luthier, Jim Cargill assembled a banjo from parts for a customer about 12 years ago. I remember the Eagle inlay, how it came in kit form and Jim had to painstakingly assemble glue and finish it off on the resonator. The finished banjo was a beauty and was sold for $9000 and again later for $12,000. Not sure where it is now, so the photo triggered memories. Sorry Leslie for "hijacking "your site for "secret mens' business".
