What type of wood is that on your resonator, Rob? It doesn't appear to be maple. The grain and color are just stunning.

The resonator is veneered in Beech.
The neck is birdseye maple laminated with a centre section of Amazon Purple Heart and walnut. The rim is 3/4" block construction Maple or American Oak and the tone ring is Alan Funk's own patented brass "Tone Tube" based on the Tubaphone ring. The fingerboard is ebony with West Australian mother of pearl and the peghead is covered with Maccassar ebony.
Alan is fairly unique in that he builds everything, all metal parts and timber. Only the strings, and tuners (Schaller) are not his. He also uses stainless steel for his tailpieces and coordinator rods. My model is 24K gold plate but he uses chrome or nickel to order.
