I own a Deering John Hartford. Absolutely terrifuc. I recently purchased a Deering Vega Senator Bluegrass banjo. It plays great and is considerably lighter.

I had to sell the Golden Era due to the wt.....she was beautiful...
It's too bad the person that sold it to me could have save me some $ as I was looking at the John Hartford too, but chose the GE. I was blinded by the beauty of the figured maple...now I have the banjo I should have had, the neck fits my hand, and the weight is a lot better....and the sound is astounding for a woody. So glad I have it.....so do you play oldtime with the senator and bg with the Hartford? Hope you are having fun!
