Thanks Sean
I am replacing the head, tail piece and top tuners (with Waverlys). I'll keep the stuff Bernie Krause replaced the originals with too but I don't like to 'guitar tuners' and I want it to function and look good when I play it. I dismantled it last night and an trying to clean the brackets without changing them too much. Some of the brackets are rusted but overall it is in decent shape. I'm guessing the banjo spent most of its life in NY...we don't allow rust to happen here in Las Vegas. The sun kills everything here but I don't think my kids could even identify rust if they saw it.
