Johnny Has Gone to France (1st Variation)

Posted 5/12/2015 11:59:14 AM

Similar to my original setting, here I include intervallic variation (both parts) and rhythmic variation, incorporating a string of triplets in the B part. The "short" (fiddle) rolls or graced triplets in the first part of my first setting are now replaced by a pair of 16th notes and an 8th note, and are typical Scottish fiddle ornaments used for reels and hornpipes. This tune could be turned into a Scottish strathspey by inserting Scots snaps (reverse dotted pairs) and dotted-eighth-note combinations.

Nice! I like the grace notes. I was thinking of adding an F# grace note to the first G, and your version, does it in the opposite direction with the second note. (F'#) I think you need a small correction to the fiddle staff though, the grace note is shown as the same note, and it doesn't match the tab. Or is my eye sight just really bad. :) I really like the 2nd figure in measure 14, the choice of strings just make the banjo ring out like a harp. The triplets are great, it's really interesting to me, to see different ways to ornament the music. I'm still unconvinced about the C#s, do you like that?

Sorry for all the questions, what speed do you play this at? I kinda like this one fairly slowly myself.
