Here's a handy way to reach some of the more elusive notes! My index is picking the 5th string and my thumb is set to pick the 2nd. Sometimes I'll stay "upside down" for several measures but usually just for a few notes. Will Keys joked that you have to be careful not to trip and fall through the banjo head. Will was the all time master of this technique.

That looks just plain dangerous, Chip. It probably goes without saying that most who attempt it should only do so with the safety of a net. (Don't let your insurance company see this photo, they'll cancel your policy on the spot!)
