We've got a Red Galloway bull that we have been breeding to our mostly Hereford cows. Last year was our first year for Galloway X calves and they look great. But now it's time to swap him out because I want to keep his daughters for breeding. I'm hoping to find a beltie to replace him with. How have the Galloways done for you?

They've done alright, i got into them because i found someone selling a small herd for cheap back about 5 years ago. I don't think their growth rate or meat to bone is all that great, but that could just be this strain too. Breeding to a champ black angus bull really improved the calves, though. And they have all still had the shaggy coat with white belt too. Honestly, I'd rather have polled Herefords, they have always been my favorite.

All in all, i think crossbreeding is the way to go.
