American locos in South Australia!!

Posted 7/24/2012 11:36:53 PM

Here's a Baldwin loco from the States we used here in Oz in the 1880s. Makes me want to get out my banjer and pick Train 45!

Hi, Rob, I showed my husband your posted Baldwin locomotive. He is a VERY interested locomotive guy with his father and grandfather having been locomotive engineers. He asked me if I remembered how to identify the Baldwin. I wish I could have shown him my expertise in this, but, alas, I forgot the clues he had given me before....The 2 domes are rounded. Of course, I should have noticed. Duh, I should have remembered! I feel so dumb!

Not the same, exactly, but I have seen 'Ford' casting stamps on Russian truck engines. Also found a clockwork for a Japanese school bell tower built in the 1800s that had it's twin in a tower in Springfield, Massachusetts. Found the Japanese clock work while in Sapporo and happened on the other clock work about three years later. Both built in Boston in about 1870, one shipped to Hokaido to help build the modern city of Sapporo. Ironically the American one was in far better working order and looked almost new.
