Yes Kevin, it is a painting, although I didn't paint it and haven't the slightest idea who did. You can tell that it is because the obviously dry-brushed smoke fumes are only in front of things and never go behind them; also, the human figure hasn't a single pore, zit, bruise or misplaced hair, and the inside of her left ankle was clumsily done.

Roxy, I looked at your profile page after you tried to 'friend' me, and noticed all the redheads thereupon. When I spotted this artwork on jigidi.com, an on-line jigsaw puzzle site. I figured that you might want a new avatar when you realized that your present one has the measles.

Thank you, I compare it with painting possibly an early Michele Del Campo, don?t have any my art stuff here at present time, he has a picture called ?Consolation? or ?The Coming Storm? your picture has similarities to one of those two mho., there is some tiny flaws as you say,?but from a distance who would tell, it?s just great. First of all, let me thank you for cluing me in to de Campo; I hadn't known of him before.

I can see the similarities of composition (Couch, young urban women, smoking, etc.) but not at all of technique. de Campo uses much broader, cruder brush strokes, and paint so thick that it almost looks more like acrylics than oils. The 'Redhead Smokes' girl has more detailed textures and much smoother and more subtle blending of colours, ina way that suggests oil pastels. Also, the skin tones in de Campo are of a much higher contrast and rendered with sharper borders. 'Consolation' and 'The Coming Storm' don't evoke the same sort of atmosphere for me; could you be thinking of his painting (title unknown) of what seems to be an Asian girl in a red dress petting a bunny in front of an appartment window?

hi guys~
this almost has a photo-painting style to it. aside from the ankle....it looks like a photo retouched with with airbrush. (for the smoke). its amazing the things you can do with the airbrush. i love painting realistically....but there are times when a work like 'the coming storm', really does something for me. i like the freedom of the brush strokes. im not sure if de campo ever used an airbrush.....but that redhead girl smoking sure looks like it has some in it.

I don't paint anymore or know much about this but everything about it suggest modern. It's nice to see areal painting either way. the use of light is nice but it does sort of walk the line between fine art and pin up. But Hey.. I love pin up.. Rockabilly Rules.

I havent received any replies for my emails posted about this picture...questions? Considering then a camera, her lower torso and legs look out of proportion for a photo? And she is somewhat too broad shouldered? Did anyone also notice the Guns and Roses poster behind her chair? I have printed off a copy, one person considered it as from the east possibly Japan. Any more knowledgeable info would be welcome I?m sure. Don?t we just love a mystery?....

Welcome back to BHO, Roxy.

I'm afraid that I'm too old to have recognbized a Guns'n'Roses poster, but you're right about her figure's perspective. That white fold behind her hair on her lleft shoulder makes her look almost part gorilla. :-) Her top half is definitely too large for her undercarriage, starting at the hips and heading South.

I probably didn't notice it at first because I grew up in a print media world with hourglass-waisted cover models like Betty Brosmer. We don't have those screen and pin-up goddesses nowadays (with the possible exception ofEvs Haberman); instead it seems we only get big-pored, bulb-nosed inflatables, samples of the surgeon's art and Jill Clayburgh dripping snot from her nose. I sorta miss those idols of perfection...
