This part of Ky is famous for its own style of southern BBQ. Mutton ( smoked lamb on an open pit ) and "Burgoo" a hearty style BBQ stew that traces its roots back to Kentuckys pioneer days..mmm mmmm good!

Kester - They slow cook the mutton over an open pit or an ole brick kennel style oven or pit ( loaded with Hickory logs...thats for the flavor. The popular way to eat is shaved on a sandwich with a pickle and an onion and a vinegar based sauce...its tasty but REAL heavy. The burgoo is like a stew...my family sometimes mixes it with a little chicken also...the mutton is real strong flavored....but its good with some crackers...very spicy.

I am from Owensboro, home of the IBM museum, and of course the founders and original homeplace of the IBMA. The Locals mostly Prefer Old hickory to Moonlight. If you plan to visit, why not during the ROMP fest the last weekend in June.
